COSV – Program Field Assistant – Mozambico

Program Field Assistant / Training & capacity building expert
Based in: Maputo, with frequent missions around the Pebane and Gilé Districts in the province of Zambezia, Mozambique
Reporting to: Program Coordinator
Length of the contract: 1 year extendable

Job description
The incumbent shall manage initiatives of environmental education within a project of rural development and biodiversity protection in The National Reserve of Gilé, and support the implementation and reinforcement of COSV in Mozambique.
The Program Field Assistant will be based in Maputo (30%), with frequent missions to the intervention zone of the “Country COSV Program” (70%), principally around the Zambesia Province. The incumbent will fall within an international team (4 officers and advisors) and lead a team on duty in the field, and effectively liaise with local public institutions and all strategic partners on the COSV action zone in Mozambique.

 

Project development and management:
Manage the initiatives of environmental education and social development within COSV Country Program, ensuring the coherence between planned activities and coordination arrangements as outlined in the project proposals approved;
Provide technical assistance (training, capacity building ….) to COSV team, local authorities and strategic partners of COSV concerning environmental education and social development matters;

 

Coordination of field activities:
Coordinate and elaborate with the local staff and the advisors the work plans, reports and budgets for all program activities related to environmental education, capacity building and social development
Ensure efficient use of available resources and administrative management in line with donor’s requirements.

 

Monitoring and evaluation:
Conduct timely monitoring of the program progress, ensure on-going monitoring and monthly reviews of work plans;
Undertake reporting activities, providing guidelines and thorough support to support staff and consultants as needed.

 

Communications and information flow:
Coordinate with and ensure linkages and synergies among COSV projects in Mozambique;
Draft reports and review activity and financial draft reports related to the educational and social agenda;
Write down briefings on achievements, synthesize best practices and lessons learnt to be shared with partners, staff, donor as well as external partners;

 

Requirements:
Advanced degree in Environmental Education, Sociology, Social psychology, Development studies, or other field directly related to climate change adaptation;
At least three years of professional experience in social cooperation initiatives in a similar position;
Excellent knowledge of project cycle standards and procedures, with a special reference to Social, Education and Rural Development matters;
Proven experience of direct management on the field of international cooperation initiatives;
Good strategic capacity to identify and develop relevant opportunities and project proposals in line with the COSV Country Program;
Proven experience in the management of initiatives funded by European Union, Italian Cooperation, UNICEF, World Bank, DFID.
Excellent social and public speaking skills, diplomacy, embedding analytical, problem-solving and conflict resolution approach;
Italian native speaker; fluent in Portuguese, both oral and written; working knowledge of English;
Previous knowledge of the Mozambique context is preferred;
