We are Fondazione Piero e Lucille Corti, www.fondazionecorti.it, an Italian ONLUS (NGO for Uganda) and we are looking for a candidate to the position of Hospital Technical Manager for the St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor (LH), Gulu (Uganda)
Lacor Hospital has about 250,000 patients a year, schools (about 750 students, out of which 500 students reside in the Hospital), a logistic office in Kampala, residences for about 300 employees in the Hospital with their families. It has about 700 employees total.
The candidate will be employed by Fondazione Corti with an Italian contract and deployed to Lacor Hospital as Hospital Technical Manager in the framework of the Foundation’s technical assistance to Lacor Hospital.
The place of work will be Lacor Hospital and full time residence in the Hospital is required.
Contract conditions will be defined depending on candidate experience and adequate training and probation period on the job is forecasted.
The Technical Manager is responsible for the following Departments: Technical Department (Workshop) and IT Department and reports directly to the Institutional Director, who is supported by a Technical Advisor. He manages approximately 40 people through 3 middle managers.
The Technical Manager is responsible for effectively managing all technical and related services at the hospital, including risks related to infrastructure and assets, all plant and equipment (both clinical and non-clinical). The Technical Manager coordinates and oversees all the technical activities within the Hospital (Biomedical & Electrical teams; mechanical, plumbing, painting, carpentry departments; the technical store, compound & fire fighter teams; drivers and vehicle maintenance). The Technical Manager also manages the IT department, especially the development of infrastructure, backup systems & help desk and programs.
He/she implements and executes the investment policies approved by the Hospital Directors and the Board, under the supervision of the Institutional Director and in full cooperation with the Technical Advisor.
The Technical Manager would be expected to provide technical assistance to the Project Development Staff (currently split between Uganda and Italy).
Candidate has a degree in Engineering or a diploma in Technical Subjects, at least 5 years of experience in technical management, preferably in the Hospital sector. It is necessary to be competent in (hospital) technical systems and IT infrastructures, in energy and water management and preferably in healthcare technology.
It is mandatory to have a very good knowledge of English and at least a 2 years’ experience in managing a team. Organizational and time management skills are necessary to have success in the role. It is necessary to behave highly ethically, to always keep calm and a polite approach even in stressful situations, an hands-on aptitude, be capable of leading by example, reinforce team building through regular general and specific area meetings. It is further necessary to have the ability to adapt to different cultures and habits, showing a high respect for people.
