How to submit a proposal to the African Water Facility

The African Water Facility (AWF) is an initiative led by the African Ministerial Council on Water (African Ministers’ Council on Water – AMCOW) aimed at mobilizing resources to fund development of water resources in Africa. The African Development Bank (AfDB) hosts the tool at the request of AMCOW. AWF accepts project proposals from governments, non-governmental organizations for grants for the activities of development of water resources in Africa. There is no deadline for submission of proposals but the budget of the projects must be between 50,000 and 5,000,000 Euros.


Eligibility Criteria
Can apply for grants of AWF agencies, institutions and NGOs in the member countries of the African Development Bank (ADB) . The applicant organization must be the government (central or local African governments , the African common) or non-governmental organizations (NGOs, civil society organizations, regional and sub ​​- regional and sectoral) .

The proposed project must meet at least one of the strategic pillars of the AWF, priority issues such as climate change, social equity and gender equality and environmental protection can result in reward .

The application process includes a first phase of contact with AWF for sending a summary of 500 words of the proposed project. The team will AWF below to know if the application is able to go on to the next phase of evaluation.


The approvals of new projects are made on quarterly cycles.
