Purpose of the role
In his/her role as the head of the Obstetric/Gynecological Department, the Gynaecologist will ensure the smooth functioning of the department, provide consultancy to guarantee proper organization and coordination, improve the quality of care, and contribute to the training of healthcare staff.
Key duties:
- Organising, coordinating and supervising the overall activity;
- Chairing the Ward Rounds, together with the other Doctors assigned to the Department and will oversee the clinical and surgical activity;
- Conducting twice per week the Obstetric and Gynaecological Clinic;
- Interacting with Paediatrician/Neonatologist in the management of complicated deliveries in the delivery Room and Major Theatre;
- Participating in the Hospital Management Team (HMT)
- Collaborating in data collection and analysis and supervising the appropriate utilisation of the Hospital software for patients’ management and data collection.
- Introducing adequate standards and guidelines in the Maternity Department, according to National Guidelines for obstetric and neonatal care.
- Tutoring/mentoring national residents and Italian residents taking part in the JPO (Junior Project Officer) initiative, organising and coordinating their training experience and appraising their performance and skills
- Delivering theoretical and practical trainings on maternal and neonatal care, both for hospital staff and for staff of peripheral health facilities.
- Chairing the maternal audits and – together with Paediatrician/Neonatologist – the perinatal audits.
- Coordinating and supervising specific operational research activities, if requested.
Requirements
- University Degree in Medicine and Specialisation in Gynaecology and Obstetrics
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English; knowledge of Kiswahili will be an asset
- At least 5 years of professional clinical experience as a specialist at hospital level
- Previous experience in fragile or low income countries
- Ability of adapting skills and competencies to contexts with limited resources and capacity to effectively cooperate with national and international staff.
- IT literacy: MS Office, Windows, ability to use digital health information systems
TERMS OF CONTRACT
- Type of contract: collaboration contract
- Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the job position, with possible increase based on professional experience)
- Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work
- Flight ticket: one return flight
- Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs
- Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa and work/residence permits
- Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it is generally individual, depending on the logistical situation and the availability of accommodation in the workplace
- Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker
- Family policy: where the socio-political context and logistics allow it, international staff may be accompanied by their partner or family. In this case, the NGO provides a salary supplement and guarantees flights, health insurance, visas and permits for dependents and accompanying family members.
