ICT operator – Data Translator for Actionable Insights to address malnutrition and strengthen Agricultural practices and Disaster Risk Reduction

Duty station: 

  • Torino (Italy) or remote
  • Minimum 40% of work hours at the TriM – Translate into Meaning office in Torino (Italy)
  • Opportunities for short missions in Senegal

Position Overview:

Nutriaid, in collaboration with TriM and Università di Torino, is seeking a dynamic, proactive, and motivated individual to join the team involved in the implementation of the following project: High Technology to Address Malnutrition in Senegal. The successful candidate will focus on transforming weather and weather-related-data collected by the CBON (Community-Based Observation Network) in Senegal, as well as data from Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models, satellites or by local institutions, into actionable insights. This work will support decision-making processes for agriculture, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and community resilience. We encourage applications from individuals who are passionate about using data to make a difference in communities worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate scientific and technical data from the project cloud database into user-friendly, actionable insights tailored to diverse stakeholders, ranging from local communities to institutional decision-makers.
  • Develop or guide the creation of tools, dashboards, or bulletins to effectively communicate data and insights.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at various levels to build capacity in interpreting weather-related information and validate the usability of developed tools.
  • Enhance the usability and relevance of current CBON platforms to better serve stakeholder needs.
  • Work closely with partners and stakeholders to identify gaps and opportunities for integrating weather data into broader decision-making frameworks.
  • Provide insights and contribute to the development of materials and tools that support training programs and community outreach initiatives, improving data literacy and decision-making capabilities through the effective use of weather and related data.

Requirements:

Educational Background: Degree in Environmental Science, ICT, Data Science, Meteorology, Climatology or related fields.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Python, R or GIS software).
  • Experience in web design or developing user-friendly data visualization tools.
  • Knowledge of meteorology and climatic data is a plus.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to translate complex datasets into meaningful and accessible information at different levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English; French proficiency is highly desirable.

Experience of special interest

  • Background in international cooperation, development and capacity building in rural or community settings.
  • Experience in agriculture or disaster risk reduction initiatives is a strong advantage.
