Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was the first NGO focused on healthcare to be recognized by the Italian government. It is now one of the leading organizations working to protect and improve the well-being and health of vulnerable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The NGO promotes long-term health cooperation projects, intervening also in emergencies to ensure that services are available to all.
Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently active in 9 Sub-Saharan countries: Angola, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda.
The NGO supports public and non-profit hospitals, local districts, schools of nursing and midwifery, university faculties of medicine.
CUAMM’s action focuses on health system strengthening and targets the weakest population groups, particularly women and children. Interventions include prevention, screening and treatment programmes; development or strengthening of referral systems at community level; training of health staff; management support and technical assistance to local health institutions; field research.
CUAMM's international and national staff work together on the front line to strengthen local health systems, in resource-limited contexts where the commitment and contribution of the individual can make a real difference.

Job position: Project Manager of Cuamm component
Location: Aber, Lango Region, Uganda - with missions within the country, particularly in the West Nile, Acholi, and Karamoja regions, and Kampala.
Duration: 12 months
Purpose of the roleThe Project Manager will be responsible for the Cuamm component of the project “PRISMA – Prevenzione, Ricerca e servizi integrati per la cura materno infantile ed oncologica / AID 013416_01_0”, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented in collaboration with a lead partner and other Italian and national partners.
The PRISMA project aims to strengthen the continuity of care for mothers and children by improving the quality of clinical and preventive services. Key interventions include healthcare staff training, the introduction of innovative technologies, capacity building of the district health system, and support for monitoring, research, and evaluation activities
Key duties- Establishing and/or maintaining regular and collaborative relations with the lead partner, as well as with project partners, authorities, and other health and non-health organizations in the project area, fostering and participating in regular planning meetings and coordination activities, and attending meetings at various levels for the monitoring and review of health policies.
- Ensuring the proper management of the team under his/her direct responsibility and of project resources, in accordance with organizational guidelines.
- Coordinating the implementation of project activities related to the assigned component, frequently travelling to the project sites (Kampala, Aber, Matany, Moroto, Angal).
- Elaborating, in collaboration with the project staff and the lead partner, the annual and quarterly work plans, the quarterly fund requests, and the Procurement Plan to be submitted, according to procedures, to the coordination headquarters for relevant approval.
- Ensuring the drafting of periodic narrative reports required by the lead partner and the donor, and collaborating with the project administrative/finance officer on the preparation of financial reports for the specific project component.
- Guaranteeing the dissemination and publication of project results,in compliance with the visibility guidelines of the donors and the NGO.
- Ensuring the constant availability of updated project data and taking part in its analysis.
Requirements
- University Degree in Medicine or Health Sciences.
- A Master’s degree or Diploma in Public Health represents a strong asset.
- Previous consolidated experience in managing and coordinating cooperation projects in fragile or low income countries; previous experience in managing health projects funded by AICS is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the operational context and previous experience in Uganda will be considered a distinct advantage.
- Good knowledge of English.
- Good knowledge of Italian.
- Dynamism and flexibility.
TERMS OF CONTRACT
Type of contract: collaboration contract
Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the position, with possible increase based on professional experience)
Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work
Flight ticket: one return flight
Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs
Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for the entry visa to the country of service, any professional registration, work and residence permits
Accommodation: provided by the NGO, it can be individual or shared, depending on the logistical situation, the availability at the workplace and the available budget.
Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker
