Founded in 1950, Doctors with Africa CUAMM was the first NGO focused on healthcare to be recognized by the Italian government. It is now one of the leading organization working to protect and improve the well-being and health of vulnerable communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The NGO promotes long-term health cooperation projects, intervening also in emergencies to ensure that services are available to all.

Doctors with Africa CUAMM is currently active in 9 Sub-Saharan countries: Angola, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda.

The NGO supports public and non-profit hospitals, local districts, schools of nursing and midwifery, university faculties of medicine.

CUAMM’s action focuses on health system strengthening and targets the weakest population groups, particularly women and children. Interventions include prevention, screening and treatment programmes; development or strengthening of referral systems at community level; training of health staff; management support and technical assistance to local health institutions; field research.

CUAMM's international and national staff work together on the front line to strengthen local health systems, in resource-limited contexts where the commitment and contribution of the individual can make a real difference.

Job position: Project Manager

Location: Dodoma with frequent missions to Shinyanga, Tanzania

Duration: 12 months

Purpose of the role

The Project Manager is responsible for coordinating and implementing a project focused on promoting the access to clean cooking and improving the health conditions of vulnerable families.

Key duties
  • maintain ongoing relations with local health authorities at all levels, the project partners and donor
  • ensure the good management of the project’s team and resources (financial and material)
  • coordinate, supervise and monitor the correct implementation of project activities (ensure procurement, storage and transportation of efficient stoves for domestic use, organise and coordinate the distribution and monitoring of clean cooking systems, etc)
  • develop - in collaboration with the project staff - the work plan, the funding request and the procurement plan
  • ensure the availability of project data and the timely elaboration of reports required by the donor
  • recruit and capacitate the project staff
  • contribute to the project communication and visibility actions in coordination with the HQs and coordination office in Dar es Salaam
  • facilitate and support any other activity requested by the HQs or the country coordination office for the current and future project

Requirements

  • University Degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Economics or related fields
  • Previous experience in project management in fragile countries and/or low resource settings; experience in managing projects of significant size and/or with a distribution component will be considered an asset
  • Good knowledge of English and preferably knowledge of Kiswahili
  • Ability to build institutional relationships with the various stakeholders involved
  • Good communication skills
  • Dynamism, flexibility and adaptability

TERMS OF CONTRACT

Type of contract: collaboration contract

Salary: TBD according to NGO salary grids and compensation policy (basic salary for the position, with possible increase based on professional experience)

Rest days: 2.5 days for each month of work

Flight ticket: one return flight

Health issues: the NGO provides health insurance and covers vaccination costs

Visa and permits: the NGO bears the cost and paperwork for visa and work/residence permits

Accommodation: provided by the NGO; living arrangements may be individual or shared, depending on the logistical situation, site availability, and budget

Other costs: the NGO covers costs related to housing utilities and internet; food and personal expenses are covered by the worker
