Director, Private Sector Partnerships

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. The Private Partnerships Division (PGP) is responsible for engaging the private sector (corporations, individuals, foundations and NGOs) through high-impact partnerships in support of WFP’s strategic priorities. Serving as a bridge between WFP and the private sector, PGP strives to mobilize funding, technical assistance and innovative solutions to help WFP fulfil its mission while offering the public and companies the opportunity to create a world with zero hunger.

The Private Sector Partnerships Director will be based in the Rome, Italy Headquarters and report to the Assistant Executive Director for Partnerships, Governance and Advocacy (PG) and will be responsible for the following key duties:

  • Lead on further developing and implementing the subsequent Private Sector Partnerships strategy including overseeing internal and external consultations, identifying continuously relevant evidence and best practices in the sector to guide and implement WFP’s strategy
  • Lead on WFP’s partnerships with the Private Sector
  • Ensure the Division is responsive to the new Corporate Strategic Plan and provides the relevant assistance and support to Country Offices in the development and implementation of their Country Strategic Plans
  • Ensure effective implementation of existing private sector partnership tools and processes. Refine and improve current tools as needed. Develop new tools, processes and guidance as required to enable the Organization to effectively partner with the private sector
  • Develop further standardized approaches to raising funds from the private sector (e.g. emergency fundraising, “in a box” platforms, etc.) and ensure global team access and training
  • Manage the Division and supervise its staff
  • Support the AED through positioning the organization and contribute to the overall objective of the Department as a member of the senior management team
  • Cooperate with other divisions within the Department Partnerships and Governance  (e.g. COMS and strategic Partnerships) and
  • Other divisions across the organization e.g. Innovations, Finance and Legal Department
  • Represent WFP at international meetings and conferences as requested
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • More than 15 years of experience in private partnership management and private sector fundraising
  • 5 years of experience in the humanitarian field desirable
  • Specific experience in managing complex global private sector partnerships with fundraising, capacity building, and brand building elements;
  • Understanding of national and international laws and regulations regarding the acceptance, registration and tax deductibility of private sector contributions;
  • Direct experience and proven success in developing and managing individual giving programmes (direct mail, online giving, SMS giving and face to face donor acquisition programmes);
  • Relevant private sector or agency communications experience specific to developing communications tools and products to support private sector fundraising;
  • Strong people management skills with experience leading teams;
  • Experience with private sector partnerships related practices, rules and regulations, due diligence, legal, forecasting, finance and donation registration and donor reporting etc. including experience in managing partnerships via customer relationship management tool SalesForce.

Education:

  • Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Marketing Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

Language:

  • Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.

Terms and Conditions

The selected candidate will be employed on a fixed-term as well as a rotational contract with a probationary period of one year.
