General context of the project
The INTERSOS-UNHCR PartecipAzione programme aims at enhancing the capacities of refugee-led and community-based organizations (RLOs and CBOs) that focus their activities on promoting participation of refugees and asylum seekers, social cohesion with local community and integration opportunities at local and national levels. The programme is now at its fifth edition.
General purpose of the position
The Communications Officer will be in in charge of defining 2022 Communication Plan and contributing to develop the Communication Strategy of the programme, including: developing and updating the programme website, promoting harmonized external communication of the programme, supporting the communication module part of the training programme, if needed, and strengthen the visibility and external communication activities of the community-based organizations which are part of the programme, as per Communication Plan.
Main responsibilities and tasks
- Developing communication materials (factsheet, flyer, report, successful stories and articles) in coordination with UNHCR Communication departments;
- Supporting the development of programme’s website (contents and graphics);
- Liaising with media and other stakeholders to give visibility to programme’s activities as per INTERSOS and UNHCR guidelines;
- Regularly update programme’s website and social media channels;
- Building an active online community through social media platforms (Facebook, Instragram and Twitter);
- Developing of a monthly newsletter and disseminating it through programme’s channels, in coordination with UNHCR;
- Drafting press releases in coordination with UNHCR and INTERSOS Communication Coordinator;
- Maintaining regular contact and building relationships with programme’s stakeholders (entities from private and public sectors, foundations, community-based and refugee-led organizations part of programme’s network, institutions and non-governmental actors);
- Being the programme’s focal point for all communication-related activities and for materials’ collection and storing;
- Support the developing and editing of communication materials when needed (videos and pictures);
- Other duties as required.
Required profile and experience
Education
Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Professional Experience
3+ years or more of relevant postgraduate work experience in communications practices and/or relevant fields.
Professional Requirements
- Understand the best practices of main social media channels including Facebook and Twitter;
- Must possess exceptional writing skills in Italian and English and be able to compose engaging and accurate content;
- Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team;
- Understanding of communications, public relations;
- Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts and strategies;
- Experience in using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop or other tools of image/video editing to produce materials and media is an asset;
- Knowledge of INTERSOS is an asset.
Languages
Fluency in English and Italian languages is essential.
