General context of the project
The INTERSOS-UNHCR PartecipAzione programme aims at enhancing the capacities of refugee-led and community-based organizations (RLOs and CBOs) that focus their activities on promoting participation of refugees and asylum seekers, social cohesion with local community and integration opportunities at local and national levels. The programme is at its fifth edition.
General purpose of the position
The Press Officer is responsible for implementing the communication and media strategies of the programme in coordination with the Communication Officer and the Project Manager, drafting and organizing press releases, and liaising with media and other stakeholders.
Main responsibilities and tasks
- Consistently monitor all relevant forms of media to find and circulate relevant articles and opportunities for programme’s coverage.
- Establishing and maintaining the programme’s database of media contacts, and identifying gaps in the programme’s engagement with specific sectors and seeking to develop new relationships.
- Write and update written and visual content for the programme’s website.
- Closely monitoring all media coverage of the programme, responding to media enquiries, setting up interviews, managing media logistics at events.
- Identifying opportunities for press coverage, organizing press events and drafting press releases.
- Help secure local, regional and national media coverage for the programme.
- Create content and stories based on the programme to be published on the programme’s website.
- Support in the development of a monthly newsletter of the programme.
- Draft press release.
- Take part in field visits across different Italian regions to ensure programme’s activities are given visibility and promoted through media.
- Support the Project Manager as requested.
Required profile and experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Political Science or other related field
- Preferable background in human rights
Professional Experience
- At least 3 years of experience in Communication and Media role with focus on migration
- Preferable background in human rights
Professional Requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to foster networks and partnerships and good knowledge of communication, information and computer technology
- In-depth knowledge, understanding of and proficiency on social media platforms
- Attention to detail and good time management and self-organizational skills
- Ability to work autonomously, effectively managing own workload
- Maturity and confidence in dealing with senior and high-ranking members of national institutions and other stakeholders
Languages
