Aim of the position:

The main duty of Education Specialist is to build a capacity building system that enables the existing and incoming LGIHE staff thrive and flourish on the work.

LGIHE is an institution of higher learning that is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES). LGIHE currently offers three academic courses: Diploma in Primary Education, Certificate in Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Certificate in Education Management and a wide range of other school-wide interventions aimed at improving the quality of education in Uganda. LGIHE uses a holistic approach to quality education (rooted into the proposal by Fr. Luigi Giussani) and so its interventions involve all key stakeholders such as school owners and governors, school leaders, teachers, students/pupils, parents and the government. As part of its methodology and philosophy LGIHE puts profound emphasis on the formation of the staff who are meant to facilitate and implement the institute’s programs and activities. This makes staff capacity building an integral part of LGIHE programming. It is from this background the institute seeks a committed capacity building specialist.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Education Specialist:
Enhance capacity building and organisational systems to guide institute in the daily operations to ensure quality delivery in all interventions.

Specific tasks of the Education Specialist:
• Provide lead support in the development and implementation of capacity building programs for all education officers, including orientation of the new staff;
• Provide support for material development for academic courses;
• Participate in supervision of students’ research;
• Participate in academic and professional research as may be required;
• Provide support in expression of interest, concept notes, proposals for new projects and sponsors in the fields of education, child protection, human rights and others.

Essential Requirements

Education:
-Master degree in Education or PHD (Arts and Humanity subjects preferred)

Work experiences:
-at least 10 years teaching experience in primary or secondary schools (or at university level). Fluent written and spoken English is a must. Candidates should be available to travel often in country and in other African countries.

Required skills and experiences

• Additional experiences: Familiarity of the main social issues within disadvantage context

• Hard Skills: good organizational skills, excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365
• Soft Skills: outstanding communication capability, good team leader
