The workplace is in Addis Ababa with field missions to other parts of the country where CEFA has or intends to set up projects.

CEFA – Comitato Europeo per la Formazione e l’Agricoltura (European Committee for Training and Agriculture) is an Italian NGO, established in 1972 and currently active in 10 countries in Africa and Latin America. CEFA is based on the principles of solidarity and cooperation between different regions of the world in the name of justice, human rights and peace. CEFA believes in the development of local communities and institutions, with the aim of improving the living conditions of families and the economies of local communities through capacity building, public awareness and advocacy for the protection of vulnerable people and their fundamental human rights
Responsibilities and tasks
The Country Director will be responsible for:
• Coordinating and representing CEFA in the country;
• Managing CEFA’s staff operating within the country, both expatriate and local;
• Supervising the correct execution of all administrative procedures meant to ensure CEFA’s operations in the country
• Managing CEFA’ Head Office in Addis Ababa, performing all the functions of General Secretary of the Ethiopian branch of CEFA;
• Establishing and maintaining good institutional relations with donors and/or other NGOs/agencies functional to CEFA’s operations in the country;
• Maintaining relations with local partners;
• Seeking and building partnerships for future projects;
• Searching for calls for proposals and funding opportunities (at both national and international level);
• Proposing and writing projects in collaboration with CEFA’s Headquarters in Bologna (main areas of interest: integrated rural development, access to energy, women’s empowerment, environmental protection);
• Supervising the proper implementation of ongoing projects in the country, ensuring the achievement of set objectives and results and carrying out periodic monitoring activities;
• Collaborating in providing inputs and information for CEFA’s institutional communication activities;
Required qualifications:
• Education: university degree, preferably specialising in international cooperation or management
• Professional experience: minimum 5 years of significant experience in management and administration of complex projects, preferably in international cooperation and/or humanitarian aid, in roles of responsibility. Previous experience in Africa required; direct knowledge of Ethiopia preferred;
• Foreign languages: English (excellent written and spoken);
• IT knowledge: autonomy in operating administrative software, Office applications, online communication tools.
Other skills required:
• Good interpersonal skills with colleagues, counterparts, donors and local authorities;
• Aptitude for teamwork and results oriented; aptitude for leadership;
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage multidisciplinary and multicultural teams;
• Ability to operate autonomously and in a multicultural working environment and to meet objectives and deadlines;
• Demonstrated ability to write projects in English for institutional donors;
• Familiarity with policies, procedures and guidelines of major international donors;
• Capability to manage the project cycle and prepare narrative and financial reports;
• Maturity in handling tense situations and ability to work under pressure;
• Willingness to travel within Ethiopia in accordance with needs and security conditions.
